How acquisition and renewal led to better UX and greater ease of management

Fitz's question

FITZ asked Van Ons to acquire an externally developed design and a Statamic website and transform them into a technically and editorially future-proof platform. The main goals: a clear website structure for both clients and talent, a significant improvement in user experience (UX), and a flexible Statamic management environment that allows the in-house team to easily build content.

Design takeover

We took over the existing design from another agency and developed it into a scalable and consistent design system. Components such as buttons, grids, and UI elements have been optimized, making the interface not only look more consistent but also more efficient to develop further.

In addition, we have fully developed the search functionality and designed a flexible set of content blocks. This allows the team to easily assemble new content pages without compromising on quality or appearance. Finally, we have restructured the navigation for the subpages so that visitors find what they are looking for faster and the website is ready for further growth.

Future-proof technology and more editorial freedom

The front-end of Fitz has been renewed within the existing technical foundation, without completely rebuilding the website. The updated design was carefully integrated into the existing environment, with a focus on improving the user experience. By refining the navigation and making the interface more accessible, the website aligns better with the renewed visual identity.

To support this renewal, we have technically modernized the front-end. We updated the design token system, developed a new grid system, and converted the layout from full-width to contained.

Under the hood, the front-end has been further optimized. The codebase has been cleaned up and organized more clearly, making it easier to maintain and prepared for future expansions. The animations have also been updated to seamlessly align with the new design and contribute to a consistent and user-friendly experience.

The back end of the website in the Statamic CMShas undergone a significant improvement. To enhance daily manageability, dynamic and versatile content blocks have been developed. This modular structure enables the editorial team to easily reuse specific components and build content more flexibly. This provides the editorial team with maximum flexibility in content creation, without compromising the existing style guide.
