About Port Welfare Committee
The Rotterdam Port Welfare Committee (RPWC) is an initiative of the Port of Rotterdam to make the port more hospitable for seafarers. Together with committed volunteers, residents and welfare organisations, numerous projects are being worked on to support the welfare of seafarers.
Providing medical care and advice, arranging transport to the harbour and organising excursions. These are just a few of the projects supported by the RPWC. A great initiative for a special, diverse and colourful target group.
Multilingual website with flexible forms
The previous RPWC website had been running for quite some time and the technology was end of life. There was a clear assignment to develop a new website. An important requirement was the modernize the forms for example, to register projects. Previously, this was done with Word documents that could be downloaded from the website and that could of course be done more effectively. The use of various forms that are easy to adjust was therefore a must.
In addition, it was important that the various target groups could easily find relevant information. And of course in a multilingual website, because the seafarers usually come from abroad and do not speak Dutch, but the website does contain relevant information for this target group.
The main goal of the new website: an effective website that reaches the target group, without too much fuss, within a tight budget
Big image web design
The first phase of this project started with the creation of a sleek new web design. In the past, the RPWC had already had some sketches made for an app. That was good input because they had already thought about a style. After our design brief was completed, a design kick-off followed in which all wishes regarding the design were discussed.
The style that was set in the sketches of the app we were able to reuse in part in the design of the new website. In addition, large images are present in the design. For example, the choice was made for large wide headers to let the intense image of the water, the sea and the ships speak.
The forms are spacious so that they are clear and easy for the user to navigate through. The design also takes into account digiaccessibility (WCAG guidelines).
