Custom design

It was important to Van Rossum that their projects and activities were well presented on the new platform. Sleek, clear, light. The beautiful buildings had to be shown off to their best advantage. Visitors had to immediately see what the company does and what it stands for. So the emphasis was on the design.

And to honor this request, we worked with custom content blocks. In addition to the standard content blocks available in WordPress, we also develop custom solutions for every project. Blocks that Van Ons develops according to the design and the agreed functionalities. These blocks can be applied anywhere on the website where the content is freely manageable. For example, in this case we worked with a new slider block, newly designed icons and a block to highlight projects.

Mobile first

The website was of course also designed to be responsive, so that it works well on both desktop and mobile.

And one of the pain points when designing a mobile site is the aspect ratio in the design. A site must look good in both landscape and portrait orientation and, above all, respond well to what the user expects. The upright format (also called portrait) therefore had priority in our case. Buttons, links, drop-down menus and text all need to respond in such a way that they look good on mobile.

A new intranet

The core, the beating heart, of the intranet is the knowledge base. Van Rossum employees have easy access to all files.

After logging in to the intranet, the search function will be prominently displayed and have extensive search and filter options. And to enable searching within documents, we used the WordPress plugin: https://fulltextsearch.org/. 

In addition to the advanced search, users can save items as favorites. Users can submit a proposal for a new knowledge base item via the 'Submit item' button. This item will have the status 'draft' when submitted as a knowledge base item. With each submission, an email is automatically sent to the marketing department with a link to the draft post.
