About SKGZ

SKGZ (Health Insurance Complaints and Disputes Foundation) helps people who cannot reach an agreement with their health insurer. They mediate complaints and handle disputes. In addition, SKGZ offers understandable information about health insurance and the foundation organizes training courses for professionals who support others with healthcare questions. In this way, SKGZ contributes to a better functioning health care system, in which the position of consumers is strengthened.

Every year, SKGZ handles thousands of complaints and questions, and they reach out to them via their information and training a broad target group – from citizens to aid workers. Accessibility, reliability and clarity are central.

Two websites in one new Laravel Filament environment

SKGZ used to work with two separate websites: the corporate site of SKGZ itself and Zorgverzekeringslijn.nl, where training and information were offered. Both sites were technically outdated, difficult to manage and differed greatly in form and structure. The wish was to combine these two sites to bring together in one central website, with a clear layout and clear navigation. An important starting point: the new site had to comply with the WCAG guidelines for digital accessibility.

In addition, there were various functional requirements that played an important role in the project. For example, SKGZ wanted complex information for consumers present in an accessible manner via so-called explanation pages, with a clear structure and space for visual support. The new site also had to be linked to three external systems: it CRM (Vobesoft) for filing complaints, the LMS (Pluvo) for e-learning and a external database with more than 8.000 published statements. Finally, SKGZ wanted a powerful search function which allows visitors to quickly and intelligently search through all content – ​​including spelling error correction and contextual relevance sorting.

Integrations with CRM, LMS and external database in Laravel Filament

We developed a new website based on LaravelFilament, with flexible content blocks. The content of both old websites was brought together in one clear structure, tailored to different target groups. In doing so, we kept in mind from the start take into account the WCAG guidelines, so that the site is usable for everyone. The content blocks are designed in such a way that the SKGZ team can build pages yourself, structuring and optimizing for SEO.

An important part of the site are the explanation pages: specially designed pages in which complex topics around health insurance are explained step by step. We developed a flexible block palette to organize text, visuals and links can be combined in an accessible way. This creates space for understandable information, which at the same time is easy to manage for the SKGZ content team. This approach helps visitors to progress themselves - or to find the right help faster.

On a technical level we realized three important links. Complaints submitted via the site are sent directly to the Vobesoft CRM system. Registrations for e-learning are automatically forwarded to Pluvo, so that participants can get started right away. And We show more than 8.000 statements via an API of the disputes committee, complete with filters and search functionality. All in all, it is a platform that works well not only for visitors, but also for the SKGZ team.

Laravel Filament website with AI integration: smart search with Algolia AI Search

An important part of the new site is the search function. Instead of relying on the standard search capabilities of a CMS, we opted for Algol: a blazing-fast, AI-driven search technology that delivers better and more relevant results. Where traditional search engines only search for exact words, Algolia also recognizes spelling errors, synonyms and the context of a search query. This means visitors can find what they are looking for faster, even if they type something different than expected – essential for complex topics such as health insurance.

On the homepage in the hero, the search bar returns results immediately when the user starts typing. The labels of the content types are also visible. This way, the user can see at a glance what kind of content the search result is.

We took care of the complete integration of Algolia. In doing so, we set which content should be searchable, how results are sorted and which components are prioritized. We also added filters and categories, so that visitors can easily search within, for example, news, explanation pages or statements. The result is a search function that feels like a smart assistant: fast, relevant and fully integrated into the look & feel of the website.

The process: from idea to complete Laravel Filament website

We start the project by drawing up a comprehensive Technical DocumentTogether with SKGZ we go through all pages and determine which content blocks are needed per component. In this document we record all functionalities, including the operation of the technical links and the AI ​​search function via Algolia. For the complaint form we charge precisely mapped which fields should be sent to the CRM (Vobesoft) via the API. We do the same for course registrations towards the LMS (Pluvo). To unlock the statements, we comb through the existing API and determine which data we can retrieve to present on the site.

In parallel with the technical development, we are working on the web design of the new website. From the start we take into account the accessibility requirements (WCAG) and the desired flexibility for content management. For the content of the site we work closely with content agency Smart Content, who helps think about the new content structure and optimizing the explanation pages. By aligning technology, design and content, we can build a clear and usable platform in a targeted manner.
