The Boekman Foundation is an independent knowledge center and conducts research into trends in the cultural sector and cultural policy. The aim of the foundation is to spread as much knowledge as possible about the cultural sector in the Netherlands. They spread knowledge through their own magazine “Boekman” but also through individual publications and meetings.
The Boekman Foundation website is an important pillar in publishing and communicating all kinds of information. The user can consult the site to view figures, news and reports, but also to see what activities are on the agenda for the coming period. The technical highlights can be found in the link with the catalog database and the link with Google Docs, where all data for the culture index is retrieved.
The Boekman Foundation also has an extensive library that can be visited by appointment. On the site, visitors can easily search for titles in this enormous archive. The titles are made searchable in the WordPress site using a custom link. This way, the foundation can maintain the catalog in the usual way while all adjustments are available at the front of the website.
Culture index via extensive Google Docs link
In addition to reports and news, the website also contains the Culture Index. The Culture Index provides, as the Boekman Foundation calls it, reflection on the state of culture based on 80 indicators. All these indicators and underlying data can be managed by the editors in the back-end. This data is visualized in an attractive manner at the front end.
All data is retrieved from Excel sheets in Google Docs via a custom link. All data is then saved as a post in WordPress so that manual editing by the administrator is possible. In this way we combine the convenience of automation with the freedom of manual adjustments in a reliable solution that always works.
