Amsterdam, October 21 – On October 14, Exact organized the Exact Live 2015 event in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Apart from “the big stage” and the many workshops that visitors could follow, the very first hackathon was also organized simultaneously. Of course Van Ons participated.

At 07:00 all teams gathered in the Hackathon Area of the Jaarbeurs. The teams got to work under the leadership of Jurjen Boss from Exact. Assignment: come up with an integration with Exact Online and develop it into a 'proof of concept' in one day. During the judging, particular attention was paid to the difficulty of the concept, the techniques used and the extent to which the concept is valuable to Exact customers. A fairly broad assignment with very nice results.

Van Ons got to work with one of her most beloved pieces of hardware at the moment: beacons. Our app links beacons to products. If a customer stands near the product with his phone, this product is recognized and the customer can immediately order the product. As soon as the customer comes close to the cash register (or walks away from the products), the order is placed. The order that is subsequently created is immediately entered into Exact.

The Van Ons team consisted of four people, with an international character: Machiel Molenaar hacked from Shanghai and Derk-Jan Karrenbeld did so from California.

Around 16:00 PM all teams had to stop developing and the concepts were presented. In an enthusiastic pitch by Bas van der Lans, the concept was presented to the three-person jury consisting of Alfred Hoogland (Altus Tellus), Martijn Feekes (Exact) and Guus van Knippenbergh (PhaseFour). After all presentations, the teams went to the main hall to hear the jury's final verdict.

The eventual winner of the Hackathon was the concept called “Predictr” (team Sparkholder). With Predictr you can request real-time information about how much credit you could theoretically obtain from a bank based on your current figures. To our great joy, team Van Ons became the 'runner up'. We understood from the jury that it was a difficult job to appoint a winner and praised the technical innovation that the Van Ons team had put into the concept.

“This is a glimpse into the Retail World 2.0” – Exact Online

We are proud of that as the runner-up of the first Ecact Live Hackathon!

Revenge next year? Who knows...
