About Terre des Hommes

Terre des Hommes Netherlands is part of an international children's rights fund active in more than 30 countries. The organization is committed to ending child labor and exploitation and helps children worldwide to better protection, education and health care. In the Netherlands, Terre des Hommes provides information and supports initiatives that contribute to a safer living environment for children.

The question: one webshop, forty stores

The question to Van Ons was clear: develop a single central e-commerce platform with which more than 40 physical stores Terre des Hommes can also offer their products online. Every store had to be able to manage products independently, process orders and adjust your own information, without this being at the expense of overview, structure or ease of use.

At the same time there was a need for central control: Settings such as product categories had to be manageable globally, so that retailers could only select existing categories. Therefore, a extensive role and rights management essential, where each retailer only has access to their own data.

In collaboration with SDIM (for marketing and SEO) and USMedia (for design), we developed a technical foundation that is scalable, accessible and easy to manage. The result is a future-proof webshop that combines local ownership with central control.

The solution: custom WooCommerce for 40+ stores

We developed a custom WooCommerce platform in which more than 40 stores can manage their own webshop environment. Each store has access to its own dashboard within the same WordPress installation, with shielded access Access to your own products, orders, users, and store data. Through comprehensive role and permissions management, we ensure that central settings—such as product categories—can only be modified by administrators, while retailers can easily select them when entering products.

To keep product entry organized, we developed a custom product entry page. This ensures uniform structure of products and prevents variation in presentation or structure. The checkout is fully adapted to the multi-store structure: Customers can order from multiple stores at the same time and choose per store whether they want the product shipped or prefer to pick it up in the store. In addition, there is a clear upsell option at the checkout to add an extra donation to the order.

For retailers there is a tailor-made reporting function Within the CMS. Users can generate reports for each store, including net and gross revenue, number of orders, and number of products sold, all with date filters. We also developed a dynamic user guide within the CMS, so retailers can quickly find how the platform works and get started themselves. This keeps management simple, even with dozens of users and stores simultaneously.

Smart AI for consistent product images

Because we deal with dozens of stores and a large number of product managers, consistency in product presentation is especially important. That's why we chose to use freestanding product images in the design. This creates a calm, consistent appearance that fits the brand and enhances the shopping experience. But in practice, manually cropping photos is time-consuming and not always feasible for retailers.

That's why we linked the webshop to Clipping Magic, an AI tool that automatically generates freestanding images. Once an image is uploaded, AI Ensures that the background is removed and the product is neatly cropped. This ensures consistency in every product photo, without the retailer having to do anything extra. This saves time, prevents visual clutter, and ensures a professional result throughout the entire webshop.

Connections with Exact, MyParcel, Salesforce and Mollie

To ensure the platform seamlessly integrates with Terre des Hommes' existing processes, we established several links with external systems. All transactions are processed automatically in Exact, with data fully broken down by individual stores and revenue per product category. This gives the organization real-time insight into the financial flow—per store and across the board.

We linked the webshop to send and return orders MyParcelA shipping label is automatically created for each order, and returns are also processed through the same system. We also provided integration with Salesforce, so that customer data and marketing information are correctly recorded for further follow-up. Payments are processed via Mollie, with support for iDEAL and other common payment methods.

The process: close collaboration with multiple partners

For this project, we collaborated closely with various parties. SDIM contributed to SEO and conversion from the start, while USMedia remained involved in the integration with the website and the correct implementation of the corporate identity. We continuously coordinated with all stakeholders and monitored the technical feasibility, progress, and integrations. Thanks to this central role we were able to build, test and launch the platform step by step without any surprises.

During the development phase we delivered new parts in sprints, We coordinated and refined the project in consultation with Terre des Hommes and their partners. By working with short lines of communication and clear priorities, we were able to respond quickly and effectively implement complex components—such as the multi-store checkout and reporting. We remain involved with the project even after delivery. further development of the platform.
